When Charnetta signed up for my "Celebrate Motherhood" campaign and suggested using her apartment building in Midtown Atlanta as the backdrop I was skeptical but wanted to keep an open mind.
Then she would send me photos from the common areas like Co-working nooks, Entrance area, and Rooftop space and I was immediately SOLD.
A beautiful new building and no one is using the common areas?
I am in!
We met on a beautiful afternoon in July and temperatures almost reached 100 degrees. Yes, we were all sweaty after the session but it was so worth it!
The kids were perfect and gave me a big hug after.
And beautiful Charnetta is now the proud owner of photos that include her having fun with her kids. As part of my Campaign, I also asked her to share her Motherhood journey.
Read here what she shared with me:
As long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a mom.
However, I delayed becoming a mom until I completed all of my medical training.
Since I completed 4 years of medical school and then a 4 year ObGyn residency and then worked for a couple of years before doing a 2 year epidemiology fellowship, this meant I was almost 40 by the time I became a mother for the first time.
Unfortunately, my first pregnancy sadly ended in a miscarriage.
This of course made me extra nervous when I got pregnant again with my daughter Ayah. Despite the nerves, I had this inner feeling that she was fine and that all would be well.
Ayah was born via scheduled cesarean and she was literally born with a heart-shaped birthmark on her forehead. She was absolutely beautiful. Although that birthmark has largely faded now that she is 5, we still get a glimpse of it now and then.
Ayah had a difficult start to life.
She spent her first few days of life in the NICU and we had to leave the hospital without her.
It was tough but she was eventually discharged and it was the best day.
Even though we had to leave her at the hospital for a few days, there was some humor involved as my husband took my clothes home a few days before I was discharged.
So I was discharged home with those fancy netted underwear, no pants, a long pea coat, and my Ugg boots!
Did I mention that I delivered in January?!
My son’s delivery wasn’t quite as eventful but what was eventful was our decision to name him Rufus IV.
I was absolutely against this name and my son still had no name by the time we were discharged from the hospital.
He also didn’t have a name for his first few doctor’s appointments.
My husband, Rufus III was determined to name him Rufus IV but I was totally against this.
I eventually gave in with the understanding that I would not actually call him Rufus.
We call him “Dru”, short for quadruple since he’s Rufus the 4th!
